Social Media Manager (part-time, contract position)

Albany Pro Musica seeks a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Social Media Manager to build and execute a social media strategy that grows audiences, deepens community engagement, and supports ticket sales, fundraising, and brand awareness. This role owns day-to-day content planning, creation, scheduling, and community management across the organization’s social platforms, working closely with the Executive Director, APM’s artistic and administrative staff, and select volunteers and contractors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain a monthly content calendar aligned with the concert season, rehearsal schedule, educational programs, fundraising campaigns, and organizational milestones.
  • Create and publish engaging content — photos, video/reels, graphics, and copy — across Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms as appropriate.
  • Attend select rehearsals, concerts, and events to capture live content (photo/video).
  • Manage day-to-day community engagement: respond to comments and messages, and monitor brand mentions in a timely, on-voice manner.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on messaging for concert promotion, single-ticket and subscription campaigns, student recruitment, donor appeals, and special announcements.
  • Track and report key performance metrics (reach, engagement, follower growth, link clicks) and recommend adjustments to strategy based on results.
  • Maintain brand consistency in tone, voice, and visual identity across all channels.
  • Coordinate with graphic designers, photographers, and videographers, as well as with volunteers or program participants, as needed for content production.
  • Stay current on social media trends, platform changes, and best practices for arts and nonprofit organizations.
  • Support paid social advertising campaigns, including basic ad setup, targeting, and budget tracking, in coordination with the Executive Director.
  • Coordinate and oversee periodic platform “take-overs” by guest artists, chorus members, patrons, student program participants, or other stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience managing social media accounts professionally, ideally for an arts, nonprofit, or cultural organization.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and voice for different audiences and platforms.
  • Proficiency with Meta Business Suite, Instagram, TikTok, and scheduling/content tools (e.g., Later, Canva, Adobe Express).
  • Basic photo and video editing skills; comfort shooting content on a smartphone in live settings.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently against a content calendar and deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong collaborative attitude.
  • Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend rehearsals and concerts in the greater Capital Region of NY (Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, etc.)

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with, or genuine interest in, choral or classical music.
  • Familiarity with the Capital Region arts landscape.

STRUCTURE & COMPENSATION

This is a remote, freelance/contract position compensated at approximately $40-$50/hour, commensurate with experience. The time time commitment for this position is estimated at approximately 30 hours per month, but may fluctuate based on current project needs. The Social Media Manager will be expected to participate in occasional online meetings with the APM team. Scope and specific deliverables will be determined collaboratively based on the selected candidate’s skills and availability.
