In-School Workshops
For several years, Albany Pro Musica has been sending a small group of 10-15 singers to Albany High School to work with the Albany High choral groups. As part of the workshop process, we rehearse pieces currently in the choir’s repertory, and teach specific vocal techniques for the students, including proper breathing, tone focus and vowel shapes.
In the 2008-2009 season we expanded this program to a full Artist in Residence Program with Albany High. We had 5 rehearsals over the course of the winter, culminating in a free concert at the Massry Center at the College of St. Rose. The program was such a success that we have continued this collaboration into our 2011-2012 season.
This year, our collaborative concert took place on Wednesday, May 16th at 7:30pm at the Massry Center for the Arts on the campus of the College of St. Rose. Each group sang fifteen to twenty minutes on its own, followed by the combined groups performing the repertory we’ve rehearsed together since January. This year’s repertory consisted of:
Cloudburst – Eric Whitacre
Soon-ah Will Be Done – African-American spiritual, arr. William Dawson
Sweetheart of the Sun – Eric Barnum
Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, movement 1 (“O Fortuna!”), with the Albany High School orchestra
The concert is always FREE!
From our May 2011 concert, this is Swingin’ With The Saints, traditional, arr. by Mark Hayes.
