This milestone event not only celebrates the choir’s rich legacy of bringing world-class choral music to the Capital Region over nearly 5 decades, but also highlights the profound connection between music and storytelling.

In a special tribute to the power of journalism and its role in shaping community and culture, the gala honors Rex Smith, esteemed journalist and former editor of the Times Union, with the Dr. Karen R. Hitchcock Award for Championing the Choral Arts. This prestigious award, named after the transformative former president of the University at Albany, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement and visibility of the choral arts in the region.

Rex Smith’s enduring support for the arts and his commitment to truth and civic engagement through journalism exemplify the spirit of this award. His leadership and advocacy have helped elevate Albany Pro Musica’s mission and impact, making him a fitting honoree for this landmark occasion.
